Tara Pixley is a Jamaican-American photojournalist whose work frames race, gender, climate futures, LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities through a liberation lens. Her clients include Apple, The North Face, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, Newsweek, People, HuffPost, and ESPN, among many others. She is a Fulbright Specialist in Visual Media; a 2022 Reynolds Journalism Fellow; 2022 Pulitzer Center Grantee; a 2021 IWMF NextGen Fellow; and a 2020 awardee of the World Press Photo Solutions Visual Journalism Initiative. Tara is a freelance photo editor for the NY Times, an assistant professor of journalism at Temple University, Vice President of NPPA and the Executive Director of Authority Collective — an organization by and for women of color photographers, dedicated to establishing equity in visual media — and she is currently photographing the environmental justice crisis of Southern California oil production.
