William Widmer

William Widmer is an independent photographer and editor with years of experience working on assignments for leading news and editorial publications including The Atlantic, National Geographic, NPR, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, ProPublica, The Washington Post, and TIME. For the past decade, he covered news and feature stories throughout the Deep South and Gulf Coast regions while based in New Orleans. His work often explores issues of environmental justice, human ecology, climate change, poverty, race, and criminal justice. Now living in Louisville, Ky., he is currently working as a staff photo editor at the New York Times Editing Center, where he selects, edits, and transmits commissioned photography on the NYT newswire.
