Genevieve Ross

The Minnesota Star-Tribune

Photo Editor

Hello!

My name is Genevieve Ross, and I am a Photo Editor at the Minnesota Star Tribune.
From 1996-2009, I was a staff photographer for several daily newspapers from California to Virginia. My last stop was at The Virginian-Pilot from 2000-2009.

I started freelancing after leaving the Pilot and continued until 2015, mainly shooting sports for Getty Images and the Associated Press.

After a ten-year hiatus from journalism, I have finally found my way back to my passion. Photo Editing is still a new endeavor for me, I’m six months in, so I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to learn and grow from the Kalish faculty, speakers and other participants!

During my hiatus, I founded a small business in California, creating prepared meals and delivering them to gyms around the Sacramento region. After four years of successfully running and growing my company, I decided it was not what I wanted to do as I looked to my future, so I moved back home to Minnesota and explored different opportunities for my next chapter. I landed at a large non-profit healthcare company, working in leadership, training and coaching administrative staff. During my five years there, I continually worked on getting back to my one true love, and after applying and interviewing a handful of times at the Star Tribune, I finally got my break!

In my current role, I oversee the Sports and Outdoors departments, which is a perfect fit since I specialized in sports photojournalism. As the main night photo editor though, I get to edit for all sections! The political and news junkie in me couldn’t be happier.
