Ivan Flores

Ivan Flores is the creative director at the Texas Observer. Before joining the Observer, Ivan was a freelance photographer covering the conflict in Afghanistan and its impacts on Afghan civilians. Originally from Miami, he has a masters degree in journalism from the City University of New York.


At the Observer he leads the production of the print magazine, commissioning artists and illustrators, and assigning photographers to work on in-depth investigative projects throughout the state of Texas. He was previously a corps member with Report for America and is a recipient of the Pulitzer Center’s connected coastline grant.
