Brent Lewis

Brent Lewis is a Photo Editor based out of New York City, co-founder of Diversify.Photo and from the greatest city in the world Chicago. South Side to be exact.
Brent works at The New York Times on the Business Desk, assigning visual coverage of the economy, finance, and auto industry.
Formerly, he was a Photo Editor at The Washington Post and the Senior Photo Editor of ESPN’s The Undefeated, where he drove the visual language of the website that is based around the intersection of sports, race, and culture. Before joining the turning his life over to photo editing, he was a staff photojournalist with stints at The Denver Post, The Rockford Register Star and
the Chillicothe Gazette. Through the years his photos have been used by the Chicago Tribune, L.A. Times, Associated Press, Forbes, and Yahoo! News.
Brent’s grandfather, Richard Lewis, first sparked his interest in photography when he loaned him a Minolta SR-7 and three lenses while Brent was studying Electrical Engineering at Northern Illinois University. But then Brent joined the staff at Northern Illinois University’s student newspaper, the Northern Star, and quickly became one of their star photographers, regularly producing quality images.

Once Brent decided to follow his passion and become a full-time photojournalist, he transferred to Columbia College Chicago, home of greats like John H. White and Dawoud Bey. After graduating in 2012 and a short, uneventful stint freelancing, he realized that the life of a staffer was way more his speed.

Brent lives in New Jersey with his wife, Jasmine, son, Koa, and dog, London McGillicutty. Some of his favorite photographers, just in case you were wondering, are Henri Cartier-Bresson, Gordon Parks, Eli Reed and W. Eugene Smith.
