was most recently the photo director at the North State Journal, a new newspaper based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Before moving back to the south, Martin was a news and sports photo editor for The Associated Press in
New York. Martin was the Visuals Editor at the Knoxville News Sentinel and a photo editor at the San Antonio Express-News and The Advocate in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Martin has twice served as a juror for the Breaking News Photography and News Feature Photography categories of the Pulitzer Prize. He is also a former president of The Associated Press Photo Managers and a former Executive Committee member of NPPA.
He holds a master's degree in photography from The School of Visual Communication at Ohio University and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Eastern Kentucky University. Prior to grad school, Martin was a staff photographer at The Augusta Chronicle.
In his spare time Martin enjoys playing old time banjo and planning a wedding with his awesome fiance, whom he met online searching the keyword banjo.
