Martha Asencio-Rhine
Photojournalist, Tampa Bay Times
As a photojournalist based in Tampa Bay, Florida and currently at the Tampa Bay Times,
I photograph daily assignments for news, features and sports and collaborate on long-term projects and investigative assignments. I coordinate with the photo staff to provide content for our photo blog, All Eyes, which features photo galleries and visually-driven stories, and I serve as a player/coach to provide support as needed on the photo desk.
My love of photojournalism was built from my admiration of the work of photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Gordon Parks and Vivian Maier who documented life and the human condition without sacrificing artistry. I decided to pursue photojournalism and returned to school 14 years after graduating from high school. I graduated cum laude from the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg with a bachelor's degree in mass communications and have been at the Tampa Bay Times since my time as a summer intern.
When I'm not working I'm spending time with my family or friends. I read a lot of books and prefer to be outside.
