Pu Ying Huang

Photo Editor, The Texas Tribune

Pu Ying Huang leads the photo department at The Texas Tribune. In 2017, Pu began working as a freelance photojournalist chronicling a variety of subjects: Hurricane Harvey’s catastrophic flooding in her hometown of Houston, a summer of protests following the murder of George Floyd, and the influx of asylum-seekers along the southern Texas border. She then spent three years in Colombia, where she honed her Spanish and documented the plight of migrants who have fled the decade-long economic and political crisis in Venezuela. Her freelance work has appeared in many outlets, including Reuters, Houston Chronicle, Al Jazeera English, VICE and ProPublica. Pu became The Texas Tribune's new photo editor in 2022 where she works with a dedicated photo team and a vast network of freelancers to cover the lives of Texans impacted by state policy and politics.
