Photographer and Filmmaker
Louie Palu is a photographer and filmmaker whose work has examined social-political issues, such as human rights and conflict for 30 years. He has worked as both a freelance and newspaper staff photographer. He has been on assignment worldwide including multi-year coverage of stories such as the war in Afghanistan, Ukraine, drug war in Mexico and changing geopolitics in the Arctic. Based in Washington D.C. he is currently working on a project covering U.S. politics which began in the final year of the Trump presidency, the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and its aftermath. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Le Figaro, El Pais, PBS and BBC. His documentary feature films have screened at Hot Docs and the Munich and Barcelona Documentary Festivals. He has served as a board member on the Frontline Freelance Register and lectures at universities internationally. His work has been selected for awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of The Year International, Best of Photojournalism and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
